Castle Hill Cidery is one of my favorite Charlottesville wedding venues. Venue scouting with a delicious drink, plus the modern barn door reception space, walls of windows, and endless views of the rolling hills. Emma & Jacob spent their wedding morning in the private getting ready spaces, with their closest friends, who kept the spirits alive with dance breaks and last minute outfit chooses. When it came time for the first look, these two were giddy with excitement.

The one thing I know for certain about Virginia weddings and no weather forecast is 100%. All day we were battling trying to get as much documented with natural light and shifting timelines to accommodate the passing rain clouds. I’m so glad they could have their beautiful ceremony outdoors, but I knew there were some key portraits missing!  I remember Emma telling me just how much she loved the Mountain View from Castle hill. I knew from stalking the radar and 20 minutes before sunset, this was our only chance! We hesitantly ventured into the open field that was seeped in mud from the downpour during cocktail hour and Jacob and Emma didn’t miss a beat! Thank goodness we carried umbrellas just in case, since after only 5 minutes the fog and clouds rolled in to unload! We documented the final few portraits under romantic rain cover, running back inside to join their reception for an epic first dance which just so happened to be by candle light when the power temporarily kicked off! Seeing the joy and spontaneous laughter from these two are some of my favorite images from the day!
